Mosel Piesport

Moselle Cycle Track. Three Country Tour

Trier - Koblenz (6 days) or Metz - Koblenz (8 days)

Overlooking the stunning vineyards you cycle easily along the Mosel from Trier to Koblenz. The bike paths run almost without gradients along the river valley, so you can appreciate the many highlights along the way: castles and monasteries, half-timbered houses and wine bars. There are many worthwhile places for a stopover or a visit. Who wants to ride more than 4 days, can start the tour in Metz (Arrival only possible Fridays) and cycle along the Moselle cycle path conducted from France to Germany via Luxembourg. During this step you will enjoy the bike trail completed in 2010 between Metz and Thionville. The destination of both variants is Koblenz, situated at the confluence of the Moselle and the Rhine. You stay in good ***-hotels; your luggage will be safely tranported from hotel to hotel.

Itinerary Trier - Koblenz

Day 1: Trier

Arrival in Trier, check-in in the hotel, unguarded parking near the hotel included. You receive the information material and rental bikes, overnight in Trier. If you arrive early, we recommend you a boat trip on the Moselle (included, also possible on day 2).

Day 2: Trittenheim, cycle tour approx. 42 km

Today, the cycling track leads you from Schweich and Longuich (with remnants of the Roman fortress Villa Urbana) to Trittenheim. This picturesque town is situated on one of the numerous bends of the Moselle and is lined with vineyards. A instructive wine trail leads south of the village past the Lawrence Chapel. Small wine tasting evening.

Day 3: Traben-Trarbach, cycle tour approx. 59 km

Today you cycle through the picturesque vineyards to Bernkastel-Kues. From the bike path the Burg Landshut is already visible (right side of the Moselle, due to the steep increase recommended only on foot, about 45 minutes) and the half-timbered houses of Kues. In Kues a settlement from the Neolithic period was excavated, worth seeing is also the marketplace and for wine lovers the Mosel Wine Museum including a wine store. Further on to Traben-Trarbach (fortress Grevenburg, old city walls).

Day 4: Cochem, cycle tour approx. 54 km

Through one of the largest wine regions in Zell an der Moselle, the path crosses Bullay, past the ruined monastery offices (right side of the Moselle - for a short tour go before Bremm over the bridge to the right side of the Moselle, a bike path leads you directly to the ruins, return back on the same path to the Moselle bridge). Bremm lies at the foot of the steepest vineyard in Europe, the Calmonts (65-76% gradient!). Further along the Moselle loops your reach Beilstein (high above the town stands the imposing fortress Metternich). Today's destination is Cochem, where you have the opportunity to visit the Reichsburg (INCLUDED) - or the next day.

Day 5: Koblenz, cycle tour approx. 49 km

On the Moselle Cycle Track you pass Klotten (with the ruin of Coraidelstein), Treis-Karden, Moselkern with the impressive Burg Eltz and cycle to the beautiful town Koblenz. You can see the gigantic equestrian statue of Kaiser Wilhelm I towering above the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine.

Day 6: Journey home or additional nights

Transfer back by bus from the hotel to Trier (only on Saturday, extra costs) or transfer back by train (extra costs, no transfer from the hotel to the station) - or additional nights, if booked.

There will be felt French flair in Luxembourg. Enjoy the views of the Moselle from one of the bars along the river promenade. (The distance between Metz and Thionville can be shortened individually by train, about 42 km, payable locally).

Day 3: Trier, cycle tour approx. 42 km

Past Castle Thorn you cycle to Grevenmacher (butterfly farm), via Oberbillig (fishing museum) and Konz to Trier. Explore Trier with the famous Roman Express (hourly departures, without reservation) and from the water (1 hour cruise, several departures per day) - both included. There is still enough time, depending on your interest to visit the famous Porta Nigra in Trier, Constantine Basilica, Roman bridge and the main market on your own.
