Western Cycling – Sicily

You’ll start your holiday in the beautiful village on Sicily’s north coastline, San Vito Lo Capo, that lies adjacent to one of Italy’s most pristine coastal nature reserves, the Zingaro Natural Reserve. Then you will began your cycling tour towards the Salt Pans and Wind mills of Nubia then again cycling on the coast towards Marsala passing through Mozia and to Mazara del Vallo with its famous Dancing Satyr. Then the archaeological site of Selinunte, a wonderful site on the sea and the famous village of Corleone, then Monreale with its superb Dome with mosaics.
Day 1: San Vito Lo Capo
Arrival in San Vito, fishermen village on the sea worldwide known for its superb white sand long beach, the Cous Cous Festival and the Zingaro Natural Reserve. Accommodation in HB (1 night)
Day 2: San Vito Lo Capo – Trapani area 45 km
Today is a very panoramic ride because you will have the chance to see the western coastal of Sicily where Tuna Fish, Saracen Towers and turquoise sea that will enchanting you.
Day 3: Trapani– Mozia – Marsala 48 km
Today you will pedal in total relax! The panoramic road coasts the sea where the sight of the flow mills on the salinas is amazing. You will then have the chance to visit the little island of Mozia, little uncontaminated punic island, where you will find and archaeological site and a private museum. Just a little bit of kilometries to reach Marsala, beautiful town on the sea where a special liqueur, the “Marsala” is producted.
Day 4: Marsala – Selinunte 72 km
Today you will have a pleasant cycling reaching the town of Mazara del Vallo very nice town with a “Kasbah” and worldwide know for the bronze statue called the “Dancing Satyr”. The along the coast admiring the amazing views of the Aegadi Islands reaching the wide archaeological site. The archaeological park surrounding Selinunte and its monuments extends about 1.300 meters east to west.
Day 5: Selinunte – Sambuca 32 km
An amazing itinerary from the sea level to Sicily inland, history and traditions with hills and flat terrain, little uphills and long descends through forests and cultivated grounds till reaching the little town of Sambuca di Sicilia.
Day 6: Sambuca – Corleone 45 km
From the arab “Quirlian”, Corleone was an ancient punic-sicilian centre; the first installation rised upon the hill above the village. Inside a scenery of great effect, you will pedal along countryside through the Ficuzza forest, Rocca Busambra, the Lake of Scanzano and the “Gole del Drago” (gorge of the dragon). Corleone is also known to be the “town of one hundred churches”, the most famos is the Main Church founded around the year 1000. But Corleone is better known to be the place where the movie “The Godfather” of Francis Ford Coppola was spoke of.
Giorno 7: Corleone – Ficuzza – Monreale 59,3 km
The last day cycling gives you breathtaking views and exciting moments but along the way do not miss the “cannolo”, typical sicilian cake in Piana degli Albanesi. You will then reach the town of Monreale which origins are from an arab village along the slopes of Monte Caputo, 310m above sea level. The Dome, being built by William II between the 1172 and 1176 is what is known most about the town of Monreale.
